--SOMETIMES I GO OUT BY MYSELF AND LOOK AT
THE WATER THINKING YOU MIGHT BE THERE
…Everything outside is encrusted with snow that’s as hard as rock salt
and the trees look as if they’ve been dusted with powdered sugar. A group of birds (I’m not sure if they’re
ducks because they don’t look like ducks, though they do swim like them) don’t
seem to mind the frigid temperatures because they’re diving for fish very near
my dock. Across the way the lake has a
large sheet of ice frozen on top of it.
It sort of looks like Australia if Australia was a plate of glass. It’s supposed to stay freezing cold all
week. I guess that means it will stay
beautiful.
…It’s funny that when I tap my phone
there’s a widget that tells me my ETA to get to work is 17.2 minutes. My phone doesn’t know me very well. It takes me seventeen seconds to get to work
by traveling up the stairs to my office.
…Tomorrow I’m heading to San Diego to
have a fun weekend with one of my favorite people. We will be spontaneous, hilarious, and
probably smashed a lot of the time.
Please come back here on Tuesday.
…A week or so back, I mentioned that I
had read Roxane Gay’s book DIFFICULT WOMEN.
I really, really liked it, and I really, really like Roxane. Our world could use more people like her.
She has a blog thingy like me (only hers
is way, way better, of course) at Tumblr and she just posted this list which I found
interesting and inspiring:
