—EYES LIKE FIRE IN THE NIGHT, BRIDGES BURNING WITH THEIR LIGHT

I Hold The Dark

I hold the dark for you,
every onyx piece and
unborn star part of
a black-holed galaxy,
the collateral of an
unfinished masterpiece.
I hold the dark for you,
measuring the shallow breadth
of deflated clouds,
following the dizzy orbit of
an unrepentant moon.
The way the nights own you
is the way they want to
cut each tether of
the future for me,
though I’m still buckled
firmly to a recent past.
I hold the dark
as well as
the light for you,
each an impossible weight
against these bone-thin arms.
I drop coins in a fountain,
read the tea leaves and
study the tunnel
for hours on end,
wondering if you just might
be doing the same.
