—I GUESS WE ALL HAVE OUR MOMENTS
The Ether
Lately I’ve been thinking how
it might not be so had to
let go of the rope
step off that ledge
twirl upside down
like the falling man.
Even now he looks a lot
happier than me,
frozen in the striped
skyscraper wallpaper,
nothing on his mind but
dropping through the ether,
a sort of inverse flight,
NYC street waiting
to catch him because
it doesn’t have a choice,
someone on the sidewalk
with a camera capturing
the moment so precisely
I’ll always have
something to hold onto
even when I really have nothing
to grip but this concussed,
needy office air.
