—IT’S NOT THAT FAR BUT SOMEHOW OUT OF REACH
Untitled
You pinched our
last pin
of light out
so casually
so tactfully
as if you’d rehearsed
the end for years
but never told me
Maybe it’s better this way
the absence of color
suffused with the onslaught of dark
I might have stood up to applaud if
you hadn’t buzz-sawed my legs off at the knees
So this morning
I took every knife out
from the drawers
lined them up like good little soldiers
or children who need to be taught
to do better
I scolded them as you would and
beat a few about the head
or handle
It felt both evil and beautiful
to have such command
to damage something so belligerently
For a few seconds
I almost understood why
you always looked skyward
during the carnage
