--I LET YOU DO THIS TO ME
Recession
I watch you
recede on the beach,
you and the sand
two tawny twins marching
through sea foam and time
until you’re a speck inside a speck
I can no longer see.
I can no longer see.
It’s lovely to look at but
I’ve never felt quite so sad—
your leaving me like
a last gasped breath,
forgetting my kiss,
forgetting to say Goodbye,
your final favor.
