—LOVE FIRST, ASK QUESTIONS LATER

Dancing on the Moon

I know it’s a school night,
but let’s go dancing on the moon,
screw gravity for once,
leave consequence behind.
We’ll sway roped together
by gentle magic,
through fine dust
in our own celestial orbit.
You can tell me I’m
wrong about everything,
that my science is flawed,
but I still won’t believe you.
We’re on the moon, after all,
and we’re dancing.
We’ll hold each other’s pulse
in our palms like the softest rabbit fur.
We’ll bump shoulders and chins,
grind groins and laugh.
When the stars swing near enough,
that’ll be a sign to grab one,
let its light burn through us,
make us brave and conjoined.
Up here, there’s only joy and glory,
hopeful ballads playing through twilight
and the galaxy’s biggest ballroom.
In our final clutch,
you’ll move even closer,
whisper in my ear a million reasons
why class has been cancelled
and this is where we’re staying.
